Mar Mar noodles are a new kind of noodle — made entirely from seaweed. With a glassy, light texture and a neutral flavor, you’d never know.

We make our noodles from two sustainably harvested and certified organic kelp varieties from the Downeast Maine coast: sugar kelp and alaria.

To form our noodles, we use a seaweed-derived ingredient called sodium alginate which is extracted from the cell walls of brown seaweed.

Our noodles are gluten-free, low carb, and low calorie.

Why seaweed?

Seaweed is one of the most concentrated natural sources of iodine — a mineral that plays a vital role in thyroid health, fertility, pregnancy, lactation, and early childhood development. While iodized salt has helped reduce severe deficiency, many people (especially women) still don’t get enough.

Seaweed contains essential vitamins such as A, C, K, and folate; key minerals like calcium, iron, and magnesium; and antioxidants such as carotenoids and flavonoids. According to the Cleveland clinic, kelp may help support weight loss, bone health, cancer prevention, and gut health.

Unlike land crops, seaweed doesn’t need fresh water, soil, or added fertilizers. It grows abundantly in the ocean, making it one of the most sustainable crops on the planet. As seaweed grows, it absorbs nutrients from the sea, removes carbon from the water, reduces ocean acidification, and provides essential habitats for marine organisms.
